The Star Redevelopment

Echo Entertainment, owner of the Star, aims to do a number of things:

  • Complete a $3bn large scale connected Integrated Resort, unique to Sydney
  • A total of 1,150 hotel room – including over 500 new 5 and 6 star suites
  • More than 50 world-class restaurants and bars – including over 20 brand new experiences
  • Simplified connections to the city, light rail, pedestrian and cycle, with new bridges and routes for 10 million Sydneysider trips a year – reduce transport pressures and travel times for inner west commuters by more than 30 minutes.
  • Enhance and complement the new International Convention Centre
  • 330,000 additional international and interstate visitors per year
  • Increased gaming and payroll tax – more than $63 million per annum by 2025;
  • The Star will pay incremental casino gaming tax revenues to the NSW Government of over $740 million during the term of extended exclusively
  • Employment over 5,750 Sydneysiders – including more than 1,460 new jobs created for Sydney per annum
  • Forecast incremental contribution to the NSW Gross State Product of $350 million per annum
  • Further payments for licence exclusivity – $250 million
  • A total investment spend of more than $1.1 billion, 93% in non-gaming, tourism related infrastructure
  • Substantial investment in tourism infrastructure – $1.1 billion;
